Christian Boarding Schools

Christian boarding schools are considered specialty schools because unlike regular boarding schools, these educational institutions place great emphasis on spiritual enrichment on top of a structured academic program. Many parents choose to send their children to such schools because they believe that such an education will help their adolescent children become responsible, morally strong and spiritually sound young adults.

The curriculum in a Christian school that presents full boarding facilities typically involves Biblical life skills that include forgiveness, self-control, leadership, financial management, the list goes on. Because these schools place significant importance on Christian values, church attendance, regular time for devotion and biblical discipleship form key activities for students living in such a community.

With the aim of encouraging students to draw closer to God, Christian boarding schools usually aim to impart important life skills, for example, practicing discretion in making the right life choices, living lives led by spirituality and religion, and relating to authority figures and living by high moral standards in especial relation to dating, sex and marriage.

While many parents send their children to Christian-based schools away from home to give them a wholesome, all-rounded, quality education, other parents look to these institutions to help them 'tame' their troubled teenagers. There are educational boarding institutions catered especially for students with special needs. These needs not only refer to learning disabilities, but also refer to social delinquencies like drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and teen pregnancies, just to name some. These schools are generally equipped to handle what society would term as difficult children with highly trained, skilled therapists, individual, group and family therapy sessions and round-the-clock supervision.

With smaller classrooms, the ratio between students and teachers is kept small and encourages greater classroom interaction from students. Such individual attention gives teachers the opportunity to mentor students, encouraging them and influencing their attitude to life. Christian boarding schools can greatly benefit children who come from dysfunctional and broken homes as it provides them with a loving and caring community that will one day be their "home away from home".
